Facebook’s People You May Know

facebook, people       Share This

You’re on Facebook.  I’m on Facebook.  My mom, is on Facebook.  We’re all there.  Without a doubt, you have noticed the section on your feed page for “People You May Know”.  Are you as disturbed by this function as I am?  It usually goes one of two ways when I see a name/face pop-up over there.  1. I don’t know you, I don’t want to know you, shame on Facebook for thinking I should know you.  2. I know you and have no desire to be connected to you in even the lowliest bowels of the Internet (read: social networking sites).

I get someone created some cute algorithm which pokes around in your circle of friends queues and if there’s a match or two they show up in your, People You May Know list.  But give me a way to turn the darn thing off already.  Alas, I guess I should not be craving things such as privacy on sites like Facebook.  How oxymoron-ic of me.

Friday Five - Recommends

  1. Movie Recommendation- In Bruges
It’s dark, very dark.  Balanced well with sharp dialogue and a poignant comedy angle which Colin Farrell executes like a true master.   This movie will forever change your opinion of Farrell (and possibly Ralph Fiennes).  Unless of course you saw Alexander(which I didn’t), then all hope might be lost.
  2. Food Recommendation - Taqueria La Sierra
Every Chicagoan has their own beloved Mexican food joint.  I am no different, and this is mine.  Although to be accurate, La Sierra touts Ecuadorian and Cuban cuisine.  The eats are fresh, inexpensive, plentiful, and delicious. The staff is always pleasant, and has treated us like family on more than one occasion.  Mixteco Grill might be the new hot spot just up Montrose, but La Sierra is my tried and true.
  3. Music Recommendation - Torche
Sometimes I feel like I’m forever stuck in the year 2002 in terms of my musical diversity.  Instead of branching out and trying something completely new, I tend to fall back on what I have liked all along or some subsidiary of it.  Sometimes closing me off from some really great tunes.  Luckily I get recommendations, and Torche was one of them.  Spot on.  If you’re into the heavier sides of rock, and enjoy a good riff, give Torche a listen.
  4. Blog Recommendation - Wheezy Waiter
Wheezy Waiter is a video blog founded by a guy I work with, Craig.  He just got done posting 5 new videos a week for the month of July and they’re a hoot.  Craig knows his way around a camera, computer, and has a good vision of what keeps 2+ minute video blog fresh and entertaining. Start with the Trophy Thief video, and go from there.
  5. Dog Recommendation - Siberian Husky
This one is purely based on speculation and hearsay.  They seem like a beautiful breed of dog, don’t they? What with the eyes and all. Plus, I hear they are good with kids.  Consider yourself #1 on my list of the next type of dog to get, Huskies.

Shout out to Jon B.’s dunny.
(It actually falls out of the frame once printed, but it’s still a nice hidden touch.)
